Speaking Out Against Domestic Violence
Through Poetry
My reason for doing
the CD, Stone Pillow, the
Unmixed Version
I wanted to take a stand
and speak out against domestic violence. After taking the advice of
some friends who have read my book, Untied Feelings,
and who are familiar with my work, I felt a
CD would be an additional vehicle to spread the message that
there are people who will not sit by while women and children are
being abused.
About this
CD, Stone
Pillow is the first of 2 versions of this recording. In the
unmixed version I wanted my listeners to hear the emotion in
my voice. I wanted them to see what I saw, through these poems. I
know this subject doesn't often come up at the water cooler , but
this problem has risen to epidemic proportions. My hope is that my
listeners will be able to see the dark side of these volatile
relationships.
For example, Track # 6, The Abuser Speaks . This
poem gives insight into a situation where a husband first lays his
hands on his wife. For the first time I could see how some abusers
become the people they are today. So my hope is that
when people hear this CD they will
appreciate the care and concern that has gone into the creation of
this collection of poems on this, my first
CD.
I would like to thank my Heavenly Father for giving me the
inspiration and continued empathy for the abused women and children
who are crying out for help. It has become clear to me that this
journey was created for me and that the force that moves me to write
the kind of poetry that people can relate to, tells me I have no
choice but to continue to speak out on this evil that has gripped
our society.
